Pike to play for 4A championship (indystar)

all week, the Castle High School boys basketball team had prepared itself for
the speed it would face in its Class 4A semistate game against Pike. But
there’s nothing quite like the real thing. Pike ran to its first state finals
appearance since 2003 with a 66-46 win over Castle on Saturday afternoon. The
Red Devils blew open a close game by forcing a flurry of turnovers in the
second half, converting them into layups and dunks. “We tried to imitate their
speed,” said Castle senior Kevin Brown. “We play fast. But not Indianapolis
fast. It was tough trying to keep up with them.” Unranked Pike (18-7) will
continue its surprising tournament run at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday
against fourth-ranked Carmel. The teams met back on Jan. 18, a game Carmel won
63-58. The Red Devils did not resemble a state championship contender on that
night. They do now. “This is what I’ve always dreamed about,” said senior R.J.
Hunter, who led Pike with 20 points. “In my backyard, counting down ‘three,
